Jose Alvarado had 14 points to lead Christ the King to a 61-50 win over Holy Cross in a CHSAA AA boys varsity basketball game in Flushing on Tuesday night. Jared Rivers had 12 points and David Cole and Tracy Cleckley each had 11 points for the Royals, who led comfortably throughout despite making just 16 of 32 free throws in the game. Chaz Platt, who had a game-high 22 points, led a late rally by Holy Cross to cut the Christ the King lead to seven with about 1:30 to play, but the Royals pulled away again after a time out to seal the win.
Christ the King, currently ranked 16th in New York State, is now 9-3 in CHSAA league play and 11-5 overall. Holy Cross is now 3-6 in CHSAA league play and 8-9 overall. The next game for both teams is Friday, when Christ the King will take on Brentwood in the SNY Invitational, while Holy Cross will play Cardinal Hayes at home.
