George Pena had 22 points to lead Monsignor Scanlan over Xavier in a CHSAA A Division basketball match-up in the Bronx on Friday night. Jordan McAllister and Saquan Singleton had 12 points each for Scanlan. Scanlan held Xavier to just two points and no field goals in the opening quarter, jumping out to an 8-2 lead at the end of the first. McCallister scored 8 of his 12 points in the second quarter, as Scanlan took a 28-18 lead at halftime. Pena scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half (including 12 of 14 from the free throw line) to close out the 74-65 win for Scanlan. Scanlan remains undefeated in CHSAA league play at 9-0, setting up a showdown with Kennedy Catholic, who is also undefeated in CHSAA league play, on Sunday in Somers. Kennedy Catholic is currently ranked 5th in New York State, while Scanlan is ranked 16th. Christian Raslowsky had 20 points for Xavier.
