Jevaun McLean had 17 points, including the winning basket, as Scholars Academy defeated previously unbeaten Democracy Prep 52-51 at the PSAL B Division high school basketball showcase in the Bronx on Saturday. Scholars trailed 36-22 at halftime, but Oneil Smith scored 11 of his 13 points in the third, as Scholars outscored Democracy 19-7 in the quarter to close the deficit to 43-41 heading into the fourth. Coming out of a time out with about 30 seconds left, Scholars trailed 51-50 with possession. After running the clock down to about 8 ticks, Smith drove the lane off of a ball screen and fed McLean who scored the game-winner with about 2.7 seconds left (see video below). Mademba Coumare had 14 points for Democracy Prep, who is now 14-1. Scholars Academy is now 16-2 overall.
