Lasana Camara had a game-high 26 points to lead Frederick Douglass Academy over previously unbeaten John Bowne, currently ranked number 1 in New York State Class A, 59-55 at the PSAL A Division Boys Basketball Showcase in Queens on Sunday. Trailing 29-27 at halftime, FDA went on a 9-0 run to open the third quarter, with two 3-pointers from Camara and one from Anthony Boateng, and took a 45-37 lead into the fourth. John Bowne came back to cut the lead to three late in the final quarter, but FDA held on for the 59-55 win. This was a fast-paced game with a lot of whistles. There were a total of 56 free throws attempted, both teams were in the bonus in third quarter and four players fouled out. Christian Hinckson had 17 points for John Bowne. FDA, currently ranked 10th in New York State Class A, is now 16-1 overall and John Bowne is 19-1.
