Gianni Ford had a game-high 22 points to lead Boys & Girls to a 47-45 win over Bishop Loughlin at the Apparel Challenge boys basketball showcase at Christ the King on Saturday. It was the third straight loss for Loughlin, and this game had eerie similarities to Loughlin's loss to Archbishop Molloy on Tuesday. Ford had five consecutive points at the end of the third quarter to give Boys & Girls a 42-32 lead heading into the fourth. Again, Loughlin came back in the final quarter. Adrian Nunez had seven straight points to cut the deficit to 44-39 with 4:06 left to play and Keith Williams' jumper with 48 seconds left made it 44-43, Boys & Girls. With 20.4 seconds left, Nehemiah Boone of Boys & Girls made the first of two free throws to make it 45-43, but Jamir Cheek rebounded Boone's miss on the second free throw to give Boys & Girls another possession. Coming out of a Boys & Girls timeout, Williams recovered the ball after Ford tried to escape a Loughlin trap in the corner. But as soon as Williams tried to advance the ball, Cheek cut him off and Ford headed the other way for a breakaway layup to put Boys & Girls ahead 47-43 with nine seconds left. After Markquis Nowell's free throws made it 47-45 and Ford missed the front end of a one-and-one, Loughlin had possession again with 1.8 seconds left. Williams made a great catch off of a long pass, but his thirty-foot heave just missed at the buzzer.
