Isaiah Washington had a game-high 25 points to lead St. Raymond to a 55-47 win over Iona Prep in the NY Archdiocesan Semifinals at Mount Saint Michael in the Bronx on Tuesday night. With St. John's Head Coach Chris Mullin courtside checking out the action, Iona Prep led 26-22 at the half. St. Raymond pushed the pace in the second half, going with a full court press after made baskets, and Sidney Wilson's follow-up slam with 4:12 left in the third gave St. Raymond a 32-30 lead. Iona Prep fought back, and Jon Brennen's basket on a baseline drive gave Iona Prep a 36-34 lead heading into the fourth. Dallas Watson's baseline score off of a feed from Washington tied the score at 38 with 6:55 left. As it did in its opening round game against St. Peter's, the Ravens found another gear in the final quarter and closed the game on a 17-9 run, with key baskets coming on baseline jumpers from reserve Terrence Trice, the second of which gave St. Raymond a 47-40 lead with 3:05 remaining. St. Raymond also executed on the defensive end, holding Patrick Fleming, Iona Prep's leading scorer, to just 9 points and no field goals in the second half. In a continuing trend in the CHSAA Diocesan tournaments, free throw disparity was a major factor in this game. Iona Prep and St. Raymond each made 17 2-point field goals and three 3-point field goals, but St. Raymond was 12-19 from the line, while Iona Prep was just 4-7. St. Raymond will face top-seeded Cardinal Hayes in the NY Archdiocesan Final at Mount Saint Michael on Saturday.
