Dylan Walsh had 34 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead St. Peter's to a 73-66 overtime win over St. Francis Prep in the opening game of the 2016 CHSAA AA Intersectional basketball playoffs at Archbishop Molloy on Saturday. St. Peter's held a 16-10 lead at the end of the first, but St. Francis Prep fought back to take a 27-25 lead before Andrew Kartalis' 3-pointer beat the second quarter buzzer to give the Eagles a 28-27 edge at the half. St. Peter's pulled ahead again in the third, stetching their lead to 39-31 on Matt McQuillen's drive with 1:24 left in the quarter. St. Francis Prep cut the deficit to 39-36 after a 3-point play by Jayden Sutton and a jumper by Stephane Etheart, but a Walsh 3-pointer gave St. Peter's a 42-37 lead heading into the fourth. Trailing 46-39 with 6:30 left, the Terriers cut the lead to 46-45 after back-to-back 3-pointers by Dimitri Sirakis. Kyle Beeson's jumper with 3 ticks left in the fourth tied the score at 59, sending the game into overtime. St. Peter's outscored St. Francis Prep 14-7 in the extra session, getting clutch baskets from Walsh, McQuillen and Liam Sanborn, and sending the Eagles into the next round of the CHSAA AA Intersectional Playoffs, where they will face Iona Prep on Thursday. Beeson had 20 points for St. Francis Prep.
