Malachi de Sousa had a game-high 26 points, as Kennedy Catholic advanced to the CHSAA A Division Championship Game with a 60-50 win over Nazareth at St. Raymond on Tuesday night. The game was tied 10-10 with 3:00 to go in the first, but Kennedy Catholic closed the quarter on an 11-2 run, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers by Henry O'Reilly, to take a 21-12 lead. De Sousa heated up in the second, scoring 12 of Kennedy Catholic's 14 second quarter points, as the Gaels held a 35-26 advantage at the half. Jaylin Grey's free throw with 4:13 left in third cut the Kennedy Catholic lead to 37-34, but the Gaels pulled away again, holding the Kingsmen to just one field goal in the third quarter and making 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth to seal the 60-50 win. Kennedy Catholic will have a chance to defend its 2015 CHSAA A Division Title on Friday night against Monsignor Farrell, who edged Monsignor Scanlan in the other semifinal game on Tuesday night. Michael Pollard Jr. had 16 points for Nazareth.
