McClancy falls to Livonia 61-60 in OT

March 21, 2016

McClancy's fantastic season ended on Friday, as the Lady Crusaders fell to Livonia 61-60 in overtime in the New York State Federation Girls B Semifinal at the Times Union Center in Albany. Taylor Aybar continued her sensational post-season play, as McClancy led throughout the first half and held a 28-24 advantage at halftime. Livonia came back when Aybar was forced to sit after picking up three quick fouls in the first three minutes of the third quarter, but Kristina Krslovic and Kenia Garcia gave McClancy enough offense to stay close, as they trailed 42-39 heading into the fourth. Aybar made an impact as soon as she re-entered the game, nailing a 3-pointer and hitting Kaitlyn Stenz with a three-quarter court pass for a layup on the break. Still, Livonia retained the lead behind the shooting of Madeline Herzog and McClancy found themselves trailing 56-54 with 9.6 seconds left. After a timeout, McClancy's out-of-bounds play had Aybar running off of a double screen, but Livonia switched on defense to deny Aybar the ball. The Lady Crusaders still executed on the play, as Stenz inbounded the ball to Krslovic who fed Garcia for a basket on brilliant power move in the post, knotting the game at 56 and sending it into overtime. McClancy fell behind 60-57 in the extra session, but the Lady Crusaders tied it again, this time on a clutch 3-pointer by Krslovic with 29.8 seconds left. Livonia decided to hold for the last shot, which turned out to be a drive to the basket by Molly Stewart. In what appeared to be minimal contact, Garcia was whistled for a foul called with just 1.8 seconds left, sending Stewart to the line. Stewart made one of two free throws to put Livonia ahead 61-60. After a timeout, McClancy was able to get Aybar the ball for a good look, but her runner in front of McClancy's bench just missed at the buzzer.
