Tajuan Simpkins and Gordon Tyler scored 16 points apiece, and Takai Simpkins scored 15, as Benjamin Banneker edged Transit Tech 69-66 at the PSAL A Division showcase at Thomas Edison HS in Queens on Saturday. The Warriors and the Express played even in the first, third and fourth quarters, but Banneker's 19-16 edge in the second frame proved to be the difference. The offensive output of Banneker was streaky but timely. Tajuan Simpkins scored 10 of his 15 points in the second quarter, Takai Simpkins scored 10 of his 16 in the second and Tyler scored 10 of his 16 in the fourth. Kymani Williams scored a game-high 29 points for Transit Tech.
The Express entered the game ranked 11th in New York State and 5th in New York City by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Banneker entered the game unranked, but that will likely change when the new rankings are released today.
