Cole Anthony had 26 points, including the game-winning basket, to lead Archbishop Molloy to a 72-71 win over Brooklyn-Queens Diocesan rival Bishop Loughlin in a thriller in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The game was tied 33-33 at halftime before Molloy jumped ahead 54-51 at the end of the third and took a 68-61 lead after Dominick Priolo's free throws with 2:35 left to play. Loughlin fought back and tied the game at 69 on Keith Williams' 3-pointer in the corner with 55 seconds left. After Molloy called timeout, Loughlin point guard Markquis Nowell stole the ball from Anthony and scored on a breakaway layup to put Loughlin ahead 71-69 with 38 ticks remaining. Justin Cole of Molloy was fouled with 19.8 seconds left after coming up with a loose ball off of a long rebound from a missed 3-pointer from Anthony. Cole sank the first free throw, making it 71-70, Loughlin. When Cole missed the second, Anthony grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on a beautiful spinning jump hook in the lane to put Molloy ahead 72-71. Loughlin missed several contested shots on the last possession to give Molloy a well-earned road win. Khalid Moore finished with 16 points for Molloy, while Williams had 20 points and Nowell had 15 points for Loughlin. Free throw shooting was a factor in this game, as Loughlin made just 15 of 29 attempts, while Molloy made 21 of 27. Molloy, currently ranked 6th in New York State, is now 11-2 in CHSAA league play and 16-3 overall, while Loughlin, currently ranked 7th in New York State, is 9-2 and 13-4. The next game for both teams is Friday, when Molloy will face Xaverian at home and Loughlin will visit Cardinal Hayes.
