Frederick Douglass Academy outrebounded Poughkeepsie 41-26, as the Lions excelled in the paint and on the glass in the second half to defeat the NYSPHSAA champs 50-42 in the New York State Federation Class A Semifinals in Glens Falls on Saturday morning. Mohammed Wague recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to help FDA overcome a five point halftime deficit to advance to Sunday's final.
Jacob Barry scored 12 points, going 3-for-6 from 3-point range, Derek Mejia Hernandez finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Abubakar Kromah added 8 points and 8 rebounds for FDA, who will face NYSAISAA powerhouse Albany Academy for the championship on Sunday afternoon.
Niyal Goins scored 11 points and Devontrey Thomas had 10 for Poughkeepsie.
