Majesty Johnson gave the Lions an offensive spark in the second quarter, scoring 7 of his team-high 14 points in the frame, but Brooklyn Collegiate struggled to contain Awaka and Fuller in the paint and on the glass, as Hayes took a 30-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

After making just one triple through the first three quarters, Brooklyn Collegiate connected on five in the fourth, three by Kareem Butler, and the Lions pressed their way back into the game, finally making a run to pull within five at 52-47 after a 3-pointer by Tahron Allen with 2:25 left. Hayes adjusted to the press after a timeout, getting easy looks for Fuller and Awaka downcourt, and the Cardinals went on to outscore the Lions 14-6 down the stretch.
Julien Soumaoro finished with 13 points for Hayes, which played on the heels of a 60-59 home loss to St. Raymond on Friday.
The Ravens took care of business against Nassau Suffolk CHSAA A Division contender Chaminade in the preceding game at the Apparel Challenge, topping the Flyers 78-56. Hayes is now 11-8 overall, while St. Raymond is 15-3.
