Isaac Grant had 14 points to lead Archbishop Molloy over Cardinal Hayes 48-45 in Queens on Tuesday. Cardinal Hayes, playing without Clive Allen, outscored Molloy 18-10 in the second quarter, sparked by two 3-pointers by Pedro Marquez and giving Hayes a 26-19 lead at halftime. Molloy opened the second half on a 7-0 run, with Cole Anthony scoring the first five points of the third quarter and Khalid Moore tying the score at 26 on a pull-up jumper. Cardinal Hayes settled down and went back in front 37-32 at the end of the third, behind Baron Goodridge's seven points in the quarter. Molloy closed strong, outscoring Hayes 16-8 in the final quarter, with Grant scoring 12 of his 14 points in the fourth, including a strong move to the basket that put Molloy up 44-41 with 1:35 left to play (see below). After Marquez's 3-pointer from the corner cut the Molloy lead to 46-45 (see also below), Hayes decided to put Grant on the line with 15 seconds left. Grant made both free throws and Hayes failed to score on its last possession after Goodridge missed a fall away 3-pointer and Adam Cisse missed two free throws after getting fouled on a put back attempt. Anthony and Moore each had 11 points for Molloy and Goodridge had a game-high 16 points for Hayes. Molloy, currently ranked 11th in New York State, is now 4-1 in CHSAA league play and 9-3 overall. Hayes, currently ranked 22nd in New York State, is now 4-3 in CHSAA league play and 7-4 overall.
