Seward Park shook off a sluggish start and rallied to top Murry Bergtraum 68-46 in PSAL A Division action in Manhattan on Tuesday.

The Bears entered the game ranked 8th in New York State among Class A schools and 5th in New York City, but they came out flat and Murry Bergtraum jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. Seward Park did not put its first points on the board until there was 3:10 left in the first quarter, and the Blazers took advantage, holding an 11-4 lead after the opening frame.

Julian Camacho got Seward Park going in the second with a pair of 3-pointers, and his free throws with 1:40 to play in the half gave the Bears their first lead at 19-18. Bergtraum took the lead back at 20-19, but Seward Park took a 24-20 advantage into the locker room after a driving score by Travon Mack.

After free throws were awarded to both teams for a double technical assessed at the end of the first half, Seward Park stretched its lead to 26-21. Dior Davis gave Bergtraum a third quarter spark, putting up 11 points in the frame, including two free throws that put the Blazers back in front 35-34 with just 1:37 to play in the third.

With Bergtraum's home crowd energized and the game looking like it would turn into a nail-biter, Seward Park put its proverbial foot on the gas. In fact, they went into overdrive. The Bears not only closed the quarter on a 7-0 run that ended with a driving score by Mack to put them ahead 41-35, Seward Park outscored the Blazers 34-11 the rest of the way.

After scoring just 34 points during the first 22:23 of action, Seward Park put up another 34 in the remaining span of 9:37, outscoring Bergtraum 27-11 in the fourth quarter.

Mack and Camacho had 19 points each for Seward Park, with Mack scoring 14 in the second half and 12 in the fourth. Davis led Bergtraum with 18.

Head Coach Kathryn Wentworth has Seward Park sitting atop the PSAL Manhattan A-I League standings with a record of 5-0. The Bears will host Washington Irving on Thursday.

Murry Bergtraum is now 3-2 in PSAL Manhattan A-I League play. The Blazers have another home game on Thursday, when they will face Eleanor Roosevelt.
