Aundre Hyatt scored a game-high 27 points and Jordan Tucker and Jorden Means scored 14 points each, as Archbishop Stepinac cruised to a 91-62 win over Mount Saint Michael in the first round of the NY Archdiocese basketball tournament at St. Raymond on Sunday. Playing without Elijah Buchanan, the CHSAA's second-leading scorer, and Joseph Bull, Mount only trailed 18-14 at the end of the first quarter before Stepinac outscored them 24-11 in the second to take a 42-25 lead at halftime. Stepiniac's 1-3-1 zone, which had Tucker positioned at the point and Hyatt in the middle, kept Mount out of sync, as the Crusaders extended the lead to 66-44 at the end of the third. Hyatt scored from all over the court in this game, nailing five 3-pointers, converting baskets in the lane and finishing in transition on the break, including two that came on long assists from Tucker. Kasey Walker had 19 points for Mount. Stepiniac will face Cardinal Hayes in the NY Archdiocese semifinals on Tuesday at Mount Saint Michael.
