Zack Bruno had a game-high 26 points, including 18 in the first half, to lead Xaverian to a 64-60 win over Holy Cross in the first round of the Brooklyn-Queens Diocesan basketball tournament on Monday. A close game throughout, Holy Cross held a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter before Xaverian took a 30-28 lead at the half. Holy Cross pulled ahead again 43-42 at the end of the third, but Xaverian closed strong in the fourth, outscoring Holy Cross 22-17 and making 13 of 16 free throw attempts in the final quarter. For the game, Xaverian was 22-28 from the line, while Holy Cross was 6-8. Xaverian will face top-seeded Archbishop Molloy in the Brooklyn-Queens Diocesan Semifinals at St. Francis Prep on Wednesday.
